Our Program Features Adventure
Waterford Country School Therapeutic Boarding Program is located on a 300-acre woodland campus in Connecticut that offers all the adventure and learning that nature allows. From our Challenge Ropes Course and Climbing Tower to our Children’s Farm and Nature Center, interaction with our therapeutic animals and the environment are an integral part of life on our campus. We believe the great outdoors is not just educational but full of adventurous opportunities for healing and growth.
Children’s Farm & Nature Center
The Children’s Farm on our main campus is home to domestic livestock such as chickens, potbelly pigs, sheep, goats, Holstein cows, horses, mini horses and a mini donkey to name a few! Each has a name and a distinct personality!
The Nature Center is an indoor facility that bursts with energy when you meet our group of exotic birds, reptiles, chinchillas, rabbits and more. Our animals are very friendly as many of them greet visitors on a daily basis and some even take part in our Mobile Farm tours across Connecticut.
Ropes and Challenge Course and Climbing Wall
Hidden in our beautiful woodland campus is a certified Ropes Challenge course and Climbing Wall. Adventure awaits as one of our highly trained adventure based counselors leads a group through teamwork strategies, group initiatives, field games, low climbing elements and high ropes elements, including a 30 foot climbing wall.
We believe in challenge by choice and encourage every child or adult who comes to our course to set goals and push themselves. No one walks away from a day on the course the same person they were when they came!
Wildlife Rehabilitation Refuge
Almost 200 injured animals per year are admitted into our wildlife rehabilitation program.
Many animals are treated and released while others become permanent residents on our campus if they need to remain in a sheltered environment.
Therapeutic Horseback Riding
The connection between animals and healing is powerful. As much as we emphasize the importance of relationships in the work we do, sometimes the connection between child to human is built faster than child to adult.
